Jaycee’s profile
Jaycee Chan (房祖名), born Fong Jo Ming in Cantonese and Fang Zuming in Mandarin, is an actor, professional singer, composer, lyricist and guitarist who released his first CD album in 2004.
He is the son of Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan and Taiwanese actress Lin Feng-Jiao. He was born Chan Jo-Ming (陳祖明), but changed his surname to Fong/Fang as this is his true ancestral name1. Although this is his name in the Eastern hemisphere, his name remains “Jaycee Chan” in the Western hemisphere with a few sources listing him as “Jaycee Fong”.
His date of birth is disputed. Most sources list him as being born on December 3, 1982, in Los Angeles, California, other sources, including Jackie Chan’s autobiography, state that he was born in 1984 and that his parents were married in 1983. Jackie’s official website states that he was married in 1982.
Although Jaycee was born in Los Angeles, he grew up in Hong Kong and attended all male schools there until he moved back to Los Angeles at 15 where he attended co-ed schools. Due to being bullied for lack of his ability to speak English fluently at that time, his father enrolled him in boxing lessons to protect himself. During one boxing match, his opponent punched Jaycee with enough force to land him in the hospital resulting in a permanent scar on his stomach due to the injury that required surgery.
