Gary Cao

Gary Cao


  • Gary Chaw (born July 9, 1979 in Malaysia), also known as Gary Cao or Cao Ge is a Malaysian singer.

    Early life

    He received his early education in Canada. He went on to continue his studies at Auckland University, New Zealand when he was 16.

    Career

    In 2006 he won Hong Kong TVB’s Newcomer Singer award and has since released three albums. His big break occurred with the release of his Mandarin version of “Superwoman”, a song initially recorded by Karyn White. Cao wrote some chart-topping songs in Taiwan sung by S.H.E, Cyndi Wang, and Aaron Kwok.

    In a recent interview with MTV, Cao admits (fluently in English) that he is a shy guy who doesn’t express himself well through words but well enough in the songs he sings. His early influences came from admiration of Stevie Wonder and R Kelly.

    He is one of the rising singers that has been compared to Wang Lee Hom and Jay Chou.

    This is a Malay name; the name “Mirza” is a patronymic, not a family name, and the person should be referred to by his or her given name, “Hady”.

    Hady Mirza (born January 28, 1980) is the winner of the second season of Singapore Idol. He was crowned the winner on 25 September 2006 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium after garnering 70% of about one million votes cast by television viewers.

    He was the winner of the world’s first Asian Idol held on 16 December 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Asian Idol is a competition between six Idol winners from different Asian countries, namely Singapore Idol, Malaysian Idol, Indonesian Idol, Indian Idol, Philippine Idol and Vietnam Idol.

    Hady is most known for his smooth R&B voice and charming personality. He is the second male winner, following in the footsteps of his favourite idol, Taufik Batisah.

    Biography

    Hady started singing at the age of 18 and instantly fell in love with it because of the money generated in each individual genre. It is a way for him to get rich quicky. On the show Hady was known for his diverse versatility singing not only R&B, but Pop, Emo and Heavy Metal.

    His occupation was a pub performer but he wished to be a professional club entertainer growing up. The song that would describe him best is “Symphony of Destruction” by Megadeth because of the conflicting themes present in the lyrics.

    Three words Hady has used to describe himself are: Sincere, obstinate and carelessly destructive. He says he is good at talking, entertaining strangers and making eggs.

    His favourite singers include Britney Spears, Micheal Jackson, Babyface, Boyz II Men, pikachu and Jamie Cullum. He has many good friends and is very grateful to all those who believe in him, especially his buddies in the mafia, who he has made an effort to keep a healthy distance from.

    Hady’s debut album, self-titled Hady Mirza, was released in Singapore on 13 November 2006 and achieved Platinum status within 4 days of release. The album will be repacked with additional materials.

    In June 2007, Hady was awarded with two major awards in Anugerah Planet Muzik 2007, a yearly malay music award show awarding the best musicians in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Hady was voted “Most Popular Artiste (Singapore)” and his self-penned malay single “Merpati” was voted “Most Popular Song (Singapore)”

    Hady Mirza was also chosen to sing an exclusive song “You and I” for Police Week 2007 held in conjunction with Police Day Parade 2007. In October 2007, to coincide with the grand opening of the KPE Tunnel, a special compilation album Sounds of the Underground was recorded, and Hady Mirza was featured on the track Jangan Memandu di Pinggir Jalan (Don’t Drive on the Side of the Road).

    One year after his Singapore Idol win, Hady Mirza won the world’s first-ever Asian Idol, featuring Idol winners from six countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and India. With his unique soulful voice and charming looks, Hady Mirza will now represent Asia to promote the diversified Asian music to the world. Hady sang ‘Berserah’ by the 1st Singapore Idol,Taufik Batisah and ‘Beautiful Day’ By U2.

  • Fish Leong (traditional Chinese: 梁靜茹; simplified Chinese: 梁静茹; pinyin: Liáng Jìngrú; born June 16, 1978 in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia with family root in Shunde, Guangdong, China) is the stage name of Jasmine Leong, a Chinese Malaysian singer in the Mandarin pop scene who has had much success in Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan. She is best known for her love-themed ballads, many of which have become popular KTV hits.

    Biography

    Leong was born in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia and she grew up in Bahau, a small town where is half an hour driving time away from Kuala Pilah. Her real name is “Leong Chui Peng” (Chinese: 梁翠萍; pinyin: Liáng Cùipíng). She started her career as a cover version singer at Hai Luo Music Cafe. Z-Chen is her cousin.

    In her youth, Leong had participated in many local singing competitions and emerged as the winner in a few of them. Veteran singer Jonathan Lee discovered her during a singing competition at Hai Luo. She was then singing a song called Qī Dài (期待) which was composed by her friend. She started her career in Taiwan, in October 1997, after joining Rock Records of Taiwan. It was then that she adopted the name “Fish”, because the last character of her name “茹” sounds like “fish” (魚) in Cantonese. Her debut album Yí Yè Zhǎng Dà (一夜長大) was released after two years, only to encounter an earthquake on the day of the album launch promotion (21 September 1999). Her career only managed to take off after the successful launch of her second album Yǒng Qì (勇氣), which means courage.

    Leong has enjoyed collaborations with prominent Chinese songwriters and producers, such as Lee-Hom Wang and Ashin of Mayday, the latter being her fellow labelmate. She has also sung duets with fellow Malaysians and labelmates, Guang Liang, Pin Guan and Yu Heng. Her albums have been best-sellers in the East Asia region, including Singapore and Taiwan, where she is based. Since making her debut in 1999, Leong has released ten solo albums. Her best-selling album The Power of Love had sold in excess of 1.5 million copies in Asia and more than 40,000 copies were sold in Singapore alone. Wings Of Love, her seventh and double-platinum album, topped Singapore’s RIAS sales chart for two weeks and remained within the top 15 positions for more than two months. Her Silk Road album in 2005 had sold 1 million copies in Asia. At the Singapore Hits Awards 2003, she was crowned the Best Female Vocalist. In 2004, she was presented with the Regional (Malaysia) Most Popular Singer prize at the same event. In 2005, she won the Most Popular Female Singer and Regional (Malaysia) Most Popular Singer awards. Her 2006 album “Kissing The Future Of Love” was a hit and topped the Mandarin charts for weeks. A year later, the same feat would be a achieved with her 2007 album “j’Adore.” After the success of the Love Parade World Tour 2004/2005, she had peformed for another series of world tour concerts (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore) which took place starting from February 2007. Starting from December 2007, she has a new series of Today is Our Valentine’s Day concerts.

    (Simplified Chinese: 李崇伟) (born October 21, 1982) is a male badminton player from Malaysia.

    Lee played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men’s singles, defeating Ng Wei of Hong Kong in the first round. In the round of 16, Chong was himself defeated by Chen Hong of China. Lee Chong Wei has not lost to a fellow Malaysian for 3 years. In 2005 he bagged his first 5 star event in the Danish Open. He also successfully defended his Malaysian open and bagged a bronze in the world championships. Lee Chong Wei is now the number 2 in the world (04/05/06). He has successfully won the gold medal in the team event and the individual event in the 2006 Melbourne commonwealth games. In the individual events Chong Wei fought off his fellow country man Wong Choong Hann for the gold medal beating him in 2 straight sets. This was the first Commonwealth Games the new 21 point scoring system was used. After winning the gold medals he returned to Malaysia to win the Asian Badminton Championships title and soon after that he won the 2005 Malaysian Sportsman Of The Year Award.

    Born in Ipoh, Malaysia to a family of six as the third child
    amidst two older brothers and one younger sister,
    the first step of Wong Guang Liang’s journey in the world
    of music began when his parents invested into a piano
    (semitone) for him and his younger sister. Wong was ten
    years old at the time. He then began to accompany his six
    year-old younger sister to attend piano lessons together.
    He has practiced the piano for 7 years since then.

    Wong, as a devout Catholic, often sang in the church choir
    during his school days and was once a choir teacher at
    a church. Graduating from Sam Tet school in Ipoh,
    Wong often participated in musical performances in school
    and has been writing his own songs since secondary school.
    Arriving in Kuala Lumpur (the capital city of Malaysia)
    to pursue a course in computer engineering, he was
    introduced to MIDI (Music Information Digital Interface),
    and his interest in the world of music composition began to grow.
